Job Description
The Grounds Worker Lead is primarily responsible for leading, training and motivating a team of individuals with disabilities to learn groundskeeping and landscaping work that meets quality standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Specific Duties
- Maintains large areas by string trimming, mowing, hedge and tree pruning (10) feet and under, hand weeding, cleaning/removing litter and debris, and performs basic irrigation maintenance and repair.
- Operates string trimmers, mowers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other manual and powered grounds maintenance general use equipment.
- Uses various hand tools such as various type of shovel, rakes, pruners, pitchfork, pole saw, etc. to care for the ornamental plants and planter beds.
- Informs the supervisor when tools and supplies are needed to perform the task or equipment requires maintenance/repairs.
- Keeps work area clean, and free of hazards must pick up and dispose of used supplies.
- Drives company vehicle to transport grounds workers and equipment, including towing various types of trailers to various sites, to complete grounds maintenance tasks.
- Performs a vehicle safety check and complete log daily.
- Completes mileage log daily.
Orientation, Supervision and Training:
- Leads, trains and motivates staff as part of Lanakila Pacific’s Grounds Maintenance training program.
- Trains and orients new staff using training curriculum to develop their skills to perform groundskeeping and landscaping work and safely use grounds maintenance equipment.
- Performs a variety of groundskeeping and landscaping work
- Reports to the supervisor when staff do not follow work rules and a counseling is required.
- Corrects mistakes in work as necessary while providing support and encouragement.
- Ensures staff time and attendance is correctly reported.
- Assigns staff where needed or requests manpower to fulfill work demands.
- Maintains a daily timecard by clocking in and out on a phone system.
- Assists supervisor with introductory and annual employee evaluations.
Maintenance of area, tools, and equipment:
- Maintains equipment maintenance/repair records.
- Checks all facilities and storage areas for proper housekeeping.
- Checks and ensures that all facilities are locked and secured.
- Checks that all equipment and tools are in a safe and working condition prior to use and notifies any discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Checks and ensures that all equipment and tools are secured and in their proper location.
- Implements plan for general cleaning at regular intervals.
EQUIPMENT USE & SAFETY
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be issued and must be used always.
- Maintains and cleans all (PPE) equipment used; any damaged equipment must be reported to supervisor immediately.
- Maintains and cleans all assigned tools and equipment used to perform your daily task.
- May use mower, hand tools, power tools to perform grounds maintenance task.
- Secures all assigned equipment in a safe and secured storage area during and at the end of workday.
- Stores and secures gas cans, chemicals in their proper storage lockers.
- Any missing or damaged equipment is considered a safety hazard and must be reported to the supervisor as soon as known.
- Reports any missing or damaged equipment, considered a safety hazard immediately
WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS:
- Scheduled to work 5 days a week. Monday through Saturday. 6:30 am. – 3:00 pm . May be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements.
- Outdoors, travel to other program sites, meeting sites, etc. as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Clearance/Certifications: 1) TB clearance; 2) Criminal background check; 3) Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing; 4) Child Protective Service/Adult Protective Service check; 5) Military Base Access (Federal contract sites)
- Valid driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract
Preferred
- Education: High school diploma or Certificate of Completion or equivalent
- Experience: One-year work or vocational training in grounds maintenance or landscaping, including a specific trade and operating grounds maintenance equipment. - Clearance/Certifications: OSHA 30-hour Safety Class Training; Military Base Access (Commercial contract sites).
- CPR/First Aid (Obtain on the job).
