We are seeking a detail-oriented, compassionate, and mission-driven Paralegal to support our Legal Team in providing high-quality legal services to survivors of domestic violence.
About the Role
The Paralegal works under the supervision of a licensed attorney to assist with legal representation in domestic violence–related matters, including restraining orders, divorce, custody, paternity, and post-decree cases. In addition to case support, this position staffs the Helpline to provide legal information, safety planning, community referrals, and in-house referrals for legal and advocacy services. The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and committed to serving individuals experiencing the impacts of abuse with dignity and compassion. This position reports directly to the Managing Attorney.

Key Responsibilities
- Under attorney supervision, apply knowledge of substantive and procedural law to assist with domestic violence, restraining order, divorce, custody & visitation, paternity, and post-decree matters
- Support a caseload of up to 40 active cases in collaboration with the Staff Attorney and Managing Attorney
- Schedule and interview clients; draft pleadings and legal documents; conduct research, investigation, and follow-up
- Maintain organized case files and ensure all deadlines are tracked in master and Legal Team calendars
- Assist in ensuring court filings and submissions are completed accurately and on time
- Serve as liaison between clients, attorneys, advocates, case managers, and community agencies
- Provide clear and consistent communication with clients and legal team members
- Exercise discretion and uphold strict attorney-client confidentiality and privilege
- Staff the Helpline to provide legal information, community referrals, safety planning, and crisis support
- Evaluate the urgency of Helpline calls and respond calmly and professionally
- Assist with collection and tracking of service data for reporting and funding purposes
- Maintain accurate time sheets, charge codes, and leave documentation
- Attend at least four relevant agency and substantive issue trainings annually
- Participate in performance reviews and professional development processes
- Perform other duties as requested by the Managing Attorney or Staff Attorneys
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Paralegal degree/certificate, or two years of experience in the legal field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals experiencing physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual abuse
- Highly organized with strong multi-tasking abilities
