Survivor Advocate: Domestic Violence and Substance Use
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi | Full-Time | Non-Exempt

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and mission-driven Survivor Advocate to provide trauma-informed advocacy and case management to individuals experiencing both domestic violence and substance use disorders.
About the Role:
This is a unique opportunity to support survivors through an integrated approach that promotes safety, recovery, and long-term self-sufficiency. The Survivor Advocate provides holistic, client-centered support to individuals navigating the complex intersection of domestic violence and substance use. Through advocacy, crisis intervention, education, and coordinated case management, the Survivor Advocate helps clients increase safety, access recovery resources, and build the tools needed for lasting stability.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advocacy services to individuals impacted by domestic violence and substance use disorders
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ legal, safety, educational, and personal needs
- Develop individualized service plans and provide ongoing case management for a caseload of up to 30 clients
- Administer risk assessments and create safety plans that address both domestic violence and substance use concerns
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support
- Accompany clients to court hearings, appointments, and interviews as appropriate
- Advocate on behalf of clients with institutions and community agencies
- Utilize validated screening tools to assess substance use patterns and severity
- Collaborate with substance use treatment providers to develop integrated care plans
- Connect clients to harm reduction services, treatment programs, and recovery support resources
- Provide outreach to potential clients and referral partners
- Facilitate trainings, educational presentations, and/or support groups
- Maintain timely and accurate case notes, files, and service statistics
- Preserve client confidentiality and adhere to all agency policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field
- At least one year of experience in direct client services, case management, and crisis counseling
- Experience and comfort with public speaking and training professionals
- Knowledge of the intersecting barriers faced by underserved communities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and punctuality
- Willingness to travel to neighboring islands
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of local community resources and support services
- Familiarity with Hawaiʻi’s criminal and civil justice systems
- Experience conducting outreach to potential clients
- Understanding of multicultural communication styles
- Active Certified Substance Use Counselor (CSAC) credential through Hawaiʻi ADAD
