About Us

The mission of Kelea Foundation is to make sports and the ocean more accessible to our entire

community. We recognize that in order for people to get to the ocean, they must also be able to

get to the beach. We work to create an accessible community overall so that everyone can gain

equal access to recreation and the Ocean. Since 2012, Kelea Foundation has been hosting programming for girls and women, empowering them to access the outdoors and sports such as surfing, swimming, skating, windsurfing and more. Our program for school aged girls and non-binary kids is called Girls In the Lineup. Each summer we host week long travel camps.

Camp Details

Camp runs Monday to Friday from 8am to 2pm. Each week sees 5-10 campers. Each morning campers meet at our headquarters. From there we travel to various locations each day for adventuring, learning and fun. Past adventures included, Hookipa swimming, Iao Valley and Haleakala hiking, skateboarding, windsurfing, paddling and more. The focus of camp is to teach campers safety, leadership and sports skills and most importantly to have fun. 

Position Title: Kelea Camp Counselor

Location: Maui, Hawaii

Salary: $25/hr - seasonal

Residency: This position is based in Maui, Hawaii.

This is a seasonal position during school breaks on Maui. Three days of training are required prior to the start of camp. Being comfortable in the ocean is a necessity for this role. Must have a valid driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Keeping Campers safe during various sports activities in and out of the ocean
  • Driving the camp van to various locations across Maui
  • Engaging young people and inspiring them to be leaders in their community
  • Guiding youth in the basics of outdoor recreation and responsibility in the outdoors
  • Having fun with campers, designing and engaging in activities that inspire creativity, joy and connection

Qualifications :


Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience working with school aged children
  • Experience in sports and outdoor recreation
  • An ability to swim confidently
  • Working knowledge of sports equipment such as surfboards, SUP boards, skateboards, snorkel gear and other related equipment
  • Strong familiarity and experience with Hawaiian culture, particularly Maui based culture. 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in trauma informed care
  • Lifeguarding experience
  • Knowledge of the ocean and weather conditions on Maui
  • Background in Outdoor Recreation
