Job summary


We are seeking a responsible and organized individual to serve as a part-time meal preparer and coordinator for residents in our emergency shelter program at our Central facility in Wailuku. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation, meal planning, and serving meals to large groups of people.

Summary of Essential Job Functions  

  1. Prepare and cook a variety of nutritious meals for participants in the emergency shelter program.
  2. Serve meals for participants in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. Ensure that the kitchen and equipment are maintained in a safe and clean manner.
  4. Assist in supervision of volunteer workers in the areas including, but not restricted to food preparation, serving meals, and kitchen procedures.
  5. Assist with other food-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  1. High School Graduate or GED is preferred, and minimum of one year’s experience working in food services, preferably in an institutional setting.
  2. Current, clean TB certificate.
  3. Have valid driver license

Abilities Required

  1. Possess a broad working knowledge of cooking methods, food preparation techniques, and safety and health regulations.
  2. Well developed interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to work with and empathize with the homeless population
  4. Strong organizational skills.
  5. Fluent in English language.
  6. Able to work flexible hours.
  7. Close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
  8. Ability to stand, walk, talk, and sit and use the arms and hands.
  9. Ability to bend over while picking things up for lifting and cleaning.
  10. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
