Job summary
Under the direction of the Food Services manager, prepares and coordinates daily meals for residents in the emergency program at our Central facility.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Maintenance and supervision of kitchen and food storage areas which serve 3 meals per day to up to 65 clients per meal.
- Maintains the organization of systems for sorting, storing, preparing and distributing fresh, frozen, canned and packaged food.
- Assist in supervision of client, Community Service and volunteer workers in the areas including, but not restricted to food preparation, serving meals, and kitchen procedures.
- Cooks and prepares a variety of nutritious meals.
- Coordinates preparation of meals by volunteers.
- Ensures that meals are prepared ahead of time and stored for use in case of emergency or for times when the kitchen manager is not available.
- Ensures that the kitchen and equipment are maintained in a safe and clean manner.

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Minimum of one year’s experience working in food services, preferably in an institutional setting.
- Current, clean TB certificate.
- Have valid driver license
Abilities Required
- Possess a broad working knowledge of cooking methods, food preparation techniques, and safety and health regulations.
- Well developed interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with and empathize with the homeless population
- Strong organizational skills.
- Fluent in English language.
- Ability to supervise the work of resident volunteers.
- Able to work flexible hours.
Physical Abilities Required
- Close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
- Ability to stand, walk, talk, and sit and use the arms and hands.
- Ability to bend over while picking things up for lifting and cleaning.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
